To
experience culture in Germersheim can be lively and eclectic. From classical play
to comedy, from chamber music to musicals, there is a rich variety of events, which
are offered by the Germersheim culture department and are staged in the
event
centre. Also
many events for children and teenagers, as well as lectures, exhibitions and many
more take place there. Besides the event centre, the Bürgersaal, the Tulla-Halle in
Sondernheim, and the new "Hufeisen"
culture and youth club situated
in the erstwhile "Becker Front" fortress, are available for performances.
The activities taking place during the Rhineland-Palatinate "Kultursommer"
are especially significant. The cultural highlight is the open-air festival in front
of the historic scenery of the "Hufeisen", lasting several days, with classical
music, theatre und ballet. Besides the versatile theatre
and concert events, Germersheim
has to offer, cultural life has been considerably shaped by clubs, schools, churches
and, last but not least, the university.
If
you want to study further in your spare time you will be welcomed at the
Germersheim
adult education centre which
offers various courses. If you are interested in musical education enrol at the Germersheim
music school. Here
you can choose from 20 different instruments, taught by 30 highly qualified music
teachers.
The municipal
library, which
opened in 1995, is a popular meeting point for bookworms. You can choose from 30,000
media, including a wide range of so-called new media. For the little ones, the main
attraction is the "read and play boat", which introduces them to literature
in a playful way.
The
town
and fortress museum inside
Ludwig Gate provides an interesting insight into the town's history. There are plenty
of exhibits on the history of the town and the fortress, on an area larger than 1000
square metres. Another topic of the museum are the trades, which were once important
for the Germersheim region.
If
you are interested in the history of road construction, then visit the German
road construction museum.
It
is the only one in Germany. In the museum you can pour over numerous documents, machines
and equipment that explain how roads are built. It is situated in the arsenal of
the erstwhile fortress, another historic building.
Several
times a year, the dedicated arts
club
organises
exhibitions for regional, national and international artists in its prestigious exhibition
rooms, which are also located in the Arsenal.
